There is something incredibly special about a wedding day in the heart of Boston. The combination of historic architecture, busy city streets, waterfront views, and the Boston skyline creates so much variety throughout a single wedding day. This Boston wedding begins with a traditional church ceremony at Holy Name Parish before heading downtown for a waterfront reception at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. From the classic church setting to portraits along Boston Harbor, the entire day blends timeless New England elegance with the energy of a city wedding.

The ceremony takes place at Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury, a beautiful option for couples searching for a Catholic church wedding ceremony in Boston. The traditional church interior creates a timeless setting for the ceremony and photographs beautifully as the couple exchanges vows surrounded by their family and friends. For couples hoping to incorporate their faith into their wedding day while still celebrating with a downtown Boston reception, Holy Name Parish is a wonderful ceremony option to consider.

Following the ceremony, the celebration moves downtown to the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. Located directly on Boston Harbor, the Marriott Long Wharf is such a stunning location for a Boston waterfront wedding. The ballroom provides an elegant backdrop for the reception while still feeling connected to the city and harbor just outside. Guests are able to experience one of the best parts of Boston while celebrating right along the waterfront.

One of my favorite features of a Boston Marriott Long Wharf wedding is the outdoor terrace. Cocktail hour moves outside, where guests can enjoy the harbor atmosphere, passing boats, and surrounding Boston waterfront before heading inside for the reception. Having an outdoor space directly connected to the wedding venue adds so much to the experience, especially during the warmer months when everyone can enjoy being outside along the water.

From a photography perspective, the location gives us an incredible variety of portrait options without needing to travel far. Long Wharf itself creates beautiful waterfront portraits with Boston Harbor, docks, boats, and sailboats in the background. Turning toward the city gives us a completely different look with Boston architecture and skyline views. This variety makes it possible to create photographs that feel unmistakably Boston while still keeping the portrait portion of the wedding day relaxed and efficient.

Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park is another beautiful portrait location just steps from the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. The greenery, pathways, architecture, and waterfront surroundings give us another look without taking the couple away from their guests for an extended period of time. I love mixing the softer greenery of the park with the more editorial city and harbor portraits around Long Wharf. Together, these locations create a wedding gallery with so much visual variety.
Boston is one of my favorite cities for weddings because every neighborhood and venue offers something different. A wedding day can move from a historic church to cobblestone streets, waterfront parks, sailboats, city architecture, and an elegant ballroom all within the same day. There is a sense of history throughout the city, but Boston weddings can still feel modern, elevated, and editorial. For couples who want a wedding that combines classic New England character with the excitement of being downtown, a Boston city wedding offers endless possibilities.

The Boston Marriott Long Wharf is an incredible choice for couples looking for a waterfront wedding venue in Boston with beautiful indoor reception space, an outdoor cocktail hour option, and some of the city’s most recognizable scenery nearby. Between the harbor, boats, skyline, Long Wharf, and Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, there are so many opportunities to create timeless wedding portraits that feel connected to Boston.
As a Boston wedding photographer, I love documenting wedding days that embrace both the city and the people at the center of the celebration. If you are planning a Boston Marriott Long Wharf wedding, a church ceremony in Boston, or another celebration throughout New England, I would love to photograph your day in a way that feels refined, natural, and true to you.
